From the Print Designer you now have two options to "print" from the fw Client desktop application:
• "Print (Beta)"
• "Save As PDF"
IMPORTANT: This is NOT available for the legacy 32bit fw Client app for Mac or Windows.
Using Print (Beta) ON macOS
The new "Print (Beta)" button will typically work on macOS using the default 64bit app (Retina optimised and non-retina optimised) for any installed printer.
Using Print (Beta) On Windows
For this to work on Windows, there is a Windows OS related change necessary, that must be applied on each Windows machine, for the new "Print (Beta)" button to work. Please follow the following 3 steps to get this to work on your side.
1. You need to know the IP of the printer to be use for "Print (Beta)"
Every printer is slightly different in this matter. Some offer web interfaces, where on a "Status" page or a "Summary" page the info of the used IP on this Printer will be displayed.
Some printers on Windows have a "Web Services" tab on their "Printer Properties" window, where the used IP is displayed.
2. On Windows enable "LPR Port Monitor"
On each Windows computer where "Print (Beta)" is to be used, go to the Windows Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Programs > Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features on or off.
Then locate: Print and Document Services > LPR Port Monitor and ensure this is enabled; see the following screen shot:
3. Modify each installed Printer(s) > Printer Properties to be used for "Print (Beta)"
On Windows go to > Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Devices and Printers and on your used "direct printer" open that Printers > Printer Properties and on the General tab you should see the "Location" field. Add the following info with the correct IP of the installed and to be used printer:
http://PrintersIP:80/WebServices/Device
The following image shows a working example of this, where this printer's IP is "172.16.0.138".
By using the above info and replacing "PrintersIP" with "172.16.0.138" results in this string: "http://172.16.0.138:80/WebServices/Device" which is then added to the "Location" field of the Printer's Properties page:
Back on the fw Client app on Windows and the Print Designer and clicking the "Print (Beta)" button, will list the installed printer(s); select the "Print (Beta)" pre-pared Printer:
A few moments after having selected the pre-pared "Print (Beta)" printer, you should get this print confirmation pop-up window:
NOTE: Some Printers from the brand "brother" unfortunately can cause to only print double-sided.
This "Print (Beta)" functionality is still a "Beta" feature and might not yet work for you.
