Note: Version 7.0 brings back the direct Print option!
From farmerswife v.6.6, when you print reports there is a new “Print As PDF…” button. This “Built-In-PDF-Printer” was implemented to support the new fw Client-side 64bit support on Windows and Mac. The functionality has been further developed from 6.6 SP1 with regards to the Save Location.
There is a new per-user setting which allows you to choose where to save your PDF reports (necessary to avoid user write permission problems):
“Ask For PDF File Path Where The Printout Will Be Saved” (in Toolbox > Settings > Miscellaneous) is enabled by default when you upgrade to version 6.6. With this setting activated, when you click on “Print As PDF”, farmerswife will ask you where you want to save the file.
From v.6.6 SP1, the default location is the Downloads folder. But if you choose another location, next time you print a report from farmerswife, your last save location will be remembered.
[Before 6.6 SP1: If you do not select another location, the file will try to save to your farmerswife app location:
- On Windows - “/AppData/Roaming/Farmers WIFE”
- On Mac “/Library/Application Support/Farmers WIFE” folder path.”]
If you do not want to manually select where to save the PDF file before it opens everytime, and - very important - you need to have have sufficient write permissions for your operating system, you can disable this setting. With this setting disabled, when you click on "Print As PDF..." your default PDF viewer will open directly.
From this default PDF viewer you can now send to a printer, or save the file wherever you wish (the PDF file will still be saved in the location as explained above, with the difference that you do not get the save as window).
No, farmerswife cannot save multiple pages into separate PDF files but there are some tools available that can split the PDF later into separate pages.
