Dark Mode for 7.0

Modified on Tue, 27 Jun, 2023 at 11:56 AM

The farmerswife desktop client app can now be run in Dark Mode!

The desktop client can now allow your users to toggle between Light and Dark mode as they please, simply within the Toolbox settings.  If you are a macOS user, you can also choose "Auto" which will allow farmerswife to follow your system's Dark Mode settings.

For even more customization, settings with color pickers now allow you to pick two colors: One for Dark Mode and one for Light mode.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Server Settings

By default, allowing users to change the color mode is disabled on the server.

There is a server setting to control the behavior on all desktop clients:

Clouded Customers

If you are a clouded customer, please contact support@farmerswife.com and we can enable the server setting that will allow your users to switch between Dark & Light modes.

Self-hosted Customers

If you are a customer hosting your own server, then please go to the settings on the server app as below:

Server > Setup > General > Color Theme Settings > Allow Changing Of Color Theme

(You may have to scroll down to see the setting)

To allow users to change their Color Mode within their desktop client, toggle Allow Changing Of Color Theme from Disabled to Enabled.

Note: After the feature is Enabled, clients will need to reconnect to be able to switch the mode

Client Settings

macOS

Users can control their own Color Mode within the Toolbox.

Toolbox > Settings > Display > Color Theme

There are three options: Light, Dark, or Auto. If Auto is selected, the Color Mode will follow the system settings of your macOS

macOS > System Preferences > General > Appearance

Windows

Users can control their own Color Mode within the Toolbox

Toolbox > Settings > Display > Color Theme

Upon selection, Users will be prompted to restart the client desktop app in order to switch to the selected Color Mode.

Additional Settings with Dark Mode Enabled

If the server supports the changing of Color Mode on desktop client, the following changes will also be visible across the application.

Color Picker Settings

All color pickers that affect background colors, such as booking colors on the Hourline, now allow you to pick two colors, a Light Mode and a Dark Mode color.

Colors prior to applying this upgrade will have a dark color automatically set, which can be edited here.

Alternative Color Suggestion

At the time of picking a new color for Bookings, Projects etc., you can define either the dark or light color and the alternative color will be suggested, but you can change this suggestion.

Web Client

The Web Client will always show Light Mode colors no matter the server settings.
